Alien Makeover!

Today my client Toks Olagundoye, from ABC’s “The Neighbors”, came in for an appointment. I’ve been doing her hair for the past few years. I don’t get to see her as often since she’s in L.A. playing an alien by the name of Jackie Joyner-Kersee. LOL. The show is hilarious.

She needed a Hair Fix. Toks has naturally curly, fine, dense hair. We were doing keratin treatments before she moved out to L.A. She likes for the keratin treatment to soften and relax her naturally kinky/curly hair, but not make it too straight. She felt like the type of keratin treatments she was getting in L.A. were causing her ends to get too straight which caused her regrowth to be more noticeable. She also had some breakage around the hairline. We needed to rebalance her keratin out.

At my salon we use the brand Lasio. It’s great because it comes in two formulas. The One Day formula can remove up to 90% of the curl and frizz. The Tropic formula (no formaldehyde) can remove up to 50% of the curl and frizz and the hair can be washed the same day as the service.

For Toks, to rebalance the over straightened ends and kinky regrowth I used both formulas in zones. The One Day formula at the regrowth and the Tropic midshaft to ends. I also chose not to pass the flat iron over the ends more than 2-3 times while at the regrowth I ironed it 5-6 times. This ensured the ends didn’t get even straighter while the regrowth straightened enough to match the ends but still retained the movement and body she wanted. Once we finished the keratin I trimmed 2 inches off of the length and shaped up her layers.

It was so good to catch up with Toks. She’s always a pleasure to work with and I’m so happy for her success!
